Camp Echoing Hills, located near Coshocton, Ohio, is a
non-denominational Christian summer camp program, serving children and
adults with disabilities. We encourage all kinds of service-oriented
groups to volunteer time and talents during our summer sessions. People
of all ages can help make a camper’s week a life-changing experience.
Why Volunteer?
Camp Echoing Hills touches the whole person! Campers grow
spiritually, educationally, socially, and emotionally through the week
long experience. As a volunteer you would reduce the staff to camper
ratio allowing the campers to have much needed personal interaction and
to have a higher quality camping experience. Without volunteers like
you, we would not have the quality program we have today. We thank you
in advance for your commitment to make a difference in the lives of
hundreds of campers.
Who can volunteer?
Anyone who has a desire to be the hands and feet of Christ and serve
persons with disabilities in a life-changing ministry is welcome to
volunteer at Camp Echoing Hills. Individuals or groups, junior high age
or older, can join our highly trained staff in serving these special
campers. All youth groups should plan to bring adequate adult
supervision - at least 1 adult leader for every 10 young people.
Current Volunteer Needs:
-
CIA – Christian in
Action. Every volunteer at camp is considered a CIA. Within the CIA
team there are Helping Hands, Cabin Counselors, CITs, Cabin Moms &
Dads, Cook’s Helpers, Maintenance Helpers, Medical Team, Camp
Lifeguards and Camp Photographers.
-
Helping Hands – 14 and
15-year-old volunteers who do various service projects around camp.
These are the wonderful people that will serve your meals in the
dining hall, wash dishes, clean bathrooms, and have a ton of fun in
the process.
-
CIT – Counselor in
Training. 16 to 20-year-old volunteers who will assist Cabin
Counselors by being an extra set of eyes and ears. You will assist
where needed during all camp activities - helping the campers when
they arrive at camp, getting them ready for the day, joining in Camper
Cabin Fellowship. You will be assigned to sleep in the Staff Cabin.
-
Cabin Counselors – 17
to 25-year-old volunteer duties at camp are to unconditionally love
and accept their camper and to care for all of their camper’s daily
needs. To be an effective counselor, you must be willing to put aside
your own personal desires and needs during your entire week of camp.
You must be willing to share God’s word during cabin devotions. The
counselors live in the cabins with their campers and are assigned the
duty of overseeing and teaching their campers.
-
Cabin Mom/Cabin Dad –
26 and over volunteers are the mom-and-dad type people that are
assigned to camper cabins to ensure the campers have the best time
possible at camp. They serve as role models, do laundry, straighten up
cabins, provide assistance with activities where needed and offer
loving encouragement to the cabin staff and volunteers.
-
Cook’s Helper – 18 and
over. Our cook’s need your help! The job of cook’s helper usually
consists of chopping, stirring and cleaning the kitchen. Real gourmet
skills are not necessary, just a hard work ethic and a desire to serve
others. Providing meals for 200 people is a hard job, but we promise
you will have fun!
-
Maintenance Helper –
18 and over. If you are an adult who wants to get your hands dirty and
help keep things running around camp, this is the job for you. You may
be asked to mow, weed-eat, pull weeds, paint or change light bulbs.
Just bring your work gloves and willingness to work hard.
-
Medical Team – 23 and
over. If you are a nursing student and are interested in being a part
of our medical team please call and talk to one of our camp staff.
-
Camp Lifeguard – The
Camp Lifeguard must be a certified lifeguard. You will be assisted by
many other staff members who closely supervise the campers, keeping a
low camper to staff ratio to ensure the enjoyment and safety of
everyone in the pool. You must be willing to place the safety of our
campers above all other concerns.
-
Camp Photographer –
The Camp Photographer has the awesome task of capturing the heart and
soul of Camp Echoing Hills. You must be someone who is creative with
the gift of seizing the moment for all to live life through your
photos.
Training Information:
Your group will receive a Volunteer CIA Training Manual
and are expected to attend a day of orientation the Saturday before
their week as a volunteer (Campers come on Sundays). Volunteers
will receive important training on their responsibilities, policies,
safety, sharing Christ with a person who has a disability, and other
related topics.
Thank
you for considering Camp Echoing Hills as a place where you and/or your
volunteer group may serve by helping some of God’s very special people.
It is a fun and rewarding ministry – for many it is a truly
life-changing experience! We look forward to serving with you!
